February 19th, 2010
South African Rusks are one of the traditional foods that was brought to South Africa by the Dutch settlers. Originally a biscuit that would travel well and permit them to have bread that was not subject to spoilage on a long trip, the rusk has evolved today to be a snack that the entire country enjoys. Commercial bakeries also make South African Rusks, and using sweet ingredients such as chocolate chips, raisins and spices, offer up a tasty treat that is a far cry from the original serviceable travel breads. Try South African Rusks and find out why they are still popular today.
