Learning to Hit the Greens

January 15th, 2010

Just like learning to hit the fairways, practice is the key ingredient when it comes to hitting the greens.  There are a few factors that are key to help you Start Hitting more Greens. Knowing how to adjust for spin and roll, picking the right club, and filling in distant gaps.  Choosing the right club depends on the type of green that you are playing on.  If the greens are hard and fast, you may want to use a 9-iron where as if they are soft an 8-iron might be what you need.  If you are trying for short shots you may want to stay away from bunkers especially if you don’t do well in the bunkers.  On the fronts, go long to avoid trouble. Fill in the gaps by making partial swings.  Lastly make full swings that are easy by weakening your lofts and adding a wedge.
