September 10th, 2009 saw an event like none other. Movado hosted a ‘meet the artist’ with the critically acclaimed artist Kenny Scharf. The event occurred at the Movado boutique over at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California. Throughout the evening, Kenny was the main guest of honor as the entire collection of limited edition Kenny Scharf Movado Artists’ Series timepieces were spread for the audience to investigate and appreciate for themselves. Each of the six watches featured his signature bold style, sporting the vibrant dial designs that are characteristic to his taste.
A total of 125 pieces are expected for release; however, the initial 25 of each design are going to be strictly dedicated to 25 sets, each of which will include all six timepieces from the Kenny Scharf Movado Artists’ Series. The watches are composed of a modified Museum Face watch steel case with a specially engraved case back, sapphire crystal display, Swiss quartz movement, and a standard black leather strap with a special-occasion strap meant to compliment the scheme of the dial on each respective timepiece. Scharf as given a name to each of his special works, including: Movado Time, Blurple Time, Universal Time, Starring the Star, Ontime, and Time Flies.
Individually, the six spectacular items are a hefty $695 each; the entire collection is set to fetch a whopping $3495. Those who are more into Kenny Scharf will be interested to know that they could save $675, if they decide to go all out and buy the entire collection. With six magnificent works of mechanical art to choose from, there’s no reason why the most infatuated fan will have to go a day without a watch, or a second day wearing the same one from yesterday.
