Noticing Parvo

February 27th, 2011

Whenever you notice your puppy showing signs of vomiting, loose stools or especially bloody stools and lethargy there are high chances that it is infected with dog parvovirus. Young puppies from 6 to 16 weeks of age are the most vulnerable to this vicious viral infection. Puppies under this age are usually being protected by the antibodies they have received along with the mother’s milk. Older and adult dogs already have immunity from previous exposure to the infection or from vaccination and might not even present serious medical illness if they contract the disease. Although certain species of dogs, such as Dobermans, Rottweilers, English Springer Spaniels and Pinchers appear to be more exposed to a number of diseases, parvovirus equally affects all dogs.
