Where Should I Change Money After My Trip?

I am trying to figure out what to do about left over foreign currency that I have after I have finished a trip. Should I try to change it right before I leave the country, or after I get back? Does this work pretty much the same as before, with banks having the best exchange rates compared to the airport currency stands? I always seem to over estimate how much money I am going to need so I end up with left over currency that I can’t use once I get home. I want to change it back into usable currency again if possible.
