The Commemorative gold lunar series for the Chinese New Year

March 17th, 2010

The Chinese calendar is divided into 12 different animals. According to legend, the Chinese gods made the animals cross a river to determine who would occupy first to last position. The calendar was then structured from the rat through to the boar. Each twelve years the same ruling sign applies. Chinese folklore also dictates that the characteristics of the ruling animal determine the energy patterns for the year. The Perth Mint has devised the Australian gold lunar series which is designed to release a new coin to commemorate each new lunar year. These coins are created from gold and silver and make nice collectors pieces.
