The Sympbol of a Ring

I was discussing symbols with my school class and I asked them other day why people gives each other rings when they get married. We talked about all the things that the rings symbolize and it brought up a lot of enjoyable bantering with the kids! They started asking what nose rings stood for, then other types of rings, and then we came back to the subject of wedding rings. One student asked if there was anything symbolic about a NY wedding band. I said no, I don’t think so, but then she said she disagreed because of 911. She felt that it would symbolize commitment to survive no matter what.
