One major mistake people make is thinking that a debt consolidator is going to take care of everything for you. The reality is that many debt consolidators are charging you a fee as part of the monthly payment that you are making to them. This fee is often close to 10% of the payment. Another debt consolidation mistake is allowing the consolidator to debit directly from your checking account, and then not closely monitoring what they are doing.
