Points to Consider during Aquarium Maintenance
July 18th, 2010
When performing aquarium maintenance, there are steps that you definitely must follow. When cleaning the tank, you do not just look at the glass case itself but you also look at the whole aquarium environment. You look for signs if cleanup is imminent, then you make sure that you have cleaned the whole thing properly. Here are some tips.
Check the water level.
Although there are devices that can be used to automatically correct water level, checking the water level yourself should be part of the routine. It is important to add water when the top level has evaporated to preserve the salinity and PH of the tank water. Decreased water means concentrated solution.
Check the temperature.
As with the water level, the temperature must be checked as well. Aquarium maintenance is not only about cleanliness, but also about keeping the right level of temperature for the organisms to thrive.
Check the water and glass. In case of maintaining cleanliness, you have to check whether the water or the glass is starting to look murky or milky. If so, cleanup should follow even if not scheduled.
Check the fish and other organisms.
Look for sick or dead fish. Sick fish must be quarantined, while dead fish should be thrown away to avoid contamination.
