Antique Door Knobs – They’re Making a Comeback

February 26th, 2010

If you like the appearance of antique door knobs and other antique fixtures, but think they’re literally a thing of the past, think again. Working ones, lighting and plumbing fixtures of all styles are available thru building salvage shops and they are not as dear as you may think. Even antique door handles and windows, gates and lampposts are available so long as you know where to look. This trend is named historic salvage, demolition salvage, fixture salvage, and “deconstruction”, dependent on what part of the country you live in and whom you ask.

With no regard for what you call it ; “deconstruction” is the new way to demolish a building, though it involves tiny or no exact demolition. Since it involves reusing many materials, it is a much “greener” or ecologically friendly way to “demolish” a building.
