Health Benefits of Royal Jelly
November 29th, 2009
Royal jelly contains B vitamins, primarily Pantothenic acid (B5) and Pyridoxine (B6), around 55 fatty acids, some enzymes and amino acids and small quantities of Vitamin C. It also contains anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and antibacterial substances that are effective when used topically, but destroyed during digestion.
Graves’ disease is an autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid, causing a goiter that in advanced stages also causes protruding eyeballs. Royal jelly has been proposed as a treatment for this condition, and tests have indicated that the proposal could be a valid one, and that royal jelly could be as effective an immunomodulatory agent as antithyroid drugs in effecting a remission of the disease.
It has also been found to possess anti-inflammatory properties, and can help to lower LDL cholesterol in the blood and used topically to assist in the healing of wounds by reducing inflammation and swelling. It should be noted that those allergic to bees or bee stings will likely suffer an allergic response to royal jelly.
Royal jelly is available in capsule, softgel, and liquid cream forms at your local or internet health food store. Always look for name brands of royal jelly such as Premier one to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase.
