Several others took issue with the Eyes Wide Open display that featured combat boots and the names of soldiers from Illinois who had died in Iraq or Afghanistan. Many who stepped up to the microphone assailed the speakers. A chaotic question-and-answer session followed the panel discussion. Another speaker, David Van Dam, 20, of Westmont, said he went absent without leave from the Navy for two weeks for political reasons before receiving an other than honorable discharge. I believe that we shouldnt be protecting our country in some other country we invaded, he said. Fellow speaker anger management tips an Army veteran who served in Iraq, said he became disillusioned with the war while protecting civilian military contractors who were paid four times as much to do the same job. He said the group supports health and educational benefits for veterans, but opposed the war.
