Does P90X work?

I’ve been seeing the P90X infomercials on TV non-stop for the past several months, does P90X actually work? I’ve been thinking about buying it lately, but I’ve gotten ripped off before when buying infomercial stuff and I don’t want to fall for a P90X scam. Is anyone having any success with this program?
My goal initially is to lose some weight, but I would like to put on some muscle mass as well. I used to be an athlete in high school, but 4 years of college and junk food has taken a toll!
