Amazon Drops The Price Of The Kindle Reader To $189

June 24th, 2010

Amazon have now dropped the price of their top selling kindle reader from $250 to $189. It’s a significant drop and puts the price of this type of e-book reader much closer to the $150 mark that many industry analysts have suggested as being the necessary level for these devices to really go mainstream. The Kindle 2.0 reader launched in February of 2009 and had a ticket price of $359 at launch. Amazon cut the price to $259 about 8 months later in response to increasing competition from the lies of Sony, Barnes and Noble and Plastic Logic. This latest development marks a major change in the e-book reader market and it will be interesting to see how the competition responds.
