May 7th, 2010
Many different oils are manufactured with one oil stock. Different things are added to oil to perform different functions. An oil Additive is the ingredient that is added to increase the performance of oil for a variety of reasons. Today, most oils have an additive of some sort. Only one oil does not have an additive and that is American Petroleum Institute Service SA motor oils. These oils without the oil additive cannot protect the modern engines of vehicles. Different types of motors take different types of motor oils depending on the additive it needs to perform better. The oldest additive used is a detergent additive made in the 1930s.
