Employee Tracking on Company Phones

August 8th, 2010

Once you’ve decided that you wish to track your employees, it’s important to understand how. Employee tracking is almost never done on an employee’s personal phone. That is overstepping your limits as an employer and is even illegal in some areas, so it’s best not to go that route. Instead, tracking is generally placed on phones which are company property, which are then lent to the employee to use for work purposes. In some cases the employee returns the phone each day after his shift, and in others he is allowed to take it home and its care becomes the employees responsibility. Either way, if it is a company phone, it is ok for the company to track it.
